The raw water strainer is an important parts of the marine diesel engine system - preventing plastic bags, jellyfish and seaweed from reaching the raw water pump and heat exchanger (indirect or fresh-water cooled) or entering the engine directly (direct cooled).

Easy access to a strainer is important so that it can be quickly unblocked if necessary. Best practice is to inspect regularly.
