The company was founded by J. A. Baldwin in 1936 and started filter production in Wisconsin, USA, before moving to Nebraska in 1953. The company was bought by J. L. Clark Manufacturing in 1981, later known as Clarcor.
In 2017, Clarcor was bought by Parker Hannifin - the same company that makes Racor filters.
Dahl is a trademark (brand) owned by Baldwin.
