Lister Petter came into existence in 1986 when the two businesses of R A Lister and Petters were combined by their then owner Hawker Siddeley.
R A Lister had been founded in 1867 by 22-year-old Robert Lister to produce engines to power farm machinery after falling out with his father. The company's first diesel engine was produced in 1929 - the single cylinder, 9 hp CS (cold start) which became known as the Lister 9-1.
Petters had started as J B Petter & Sons of Yeovil in 1896 and produced stationery petrol and diesel engines mostly to drive farm machinery. During the First World War the company began building aircraft for the British Royal Navy.
Lister Petter was sold to Schroders Venture Capital in 1996, to a management buyout in 2000 and went into administration (bankruptcy) in 2013. The company was bought by Sleeman & Hawken in 2017 and is now known as Lister Petter Power Systems and manufactures its iconic green engines in Hardwicke, Gloucesterchire, England.

Simple, regular maintenance is the easiest, quickest and cheapest way to avoid problems and accelerated engine wear. Most expensive repairs start from a lack of basic maintenance or ignoring small warnings. The work is not difficult - it just needs to be done.
The purpose is so that we can enjoy our boat for all the reasons we bought her. Trust yourself. Do the work regularly and be methodical.
